The south-facing vines range from 15 - 60 years old and produce a wine with an alluring nose with ripe red cherry, graphite and fine-grained tannins with lifted have been made at Château Macquin since 1885, when the first cellar was developed by François-Albert Macquin. François was the first to re-plant vines in the Saint-Émilion region following the phylloxera outbreak in the 19th century. Today, the Château is run by his grandson Denis and wife Christine CorreMacquin, who own 27 hectares of vines in both Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. They are involved in every vine-growing and winemaking decision to ensure the high quality of their wine remains consistent every Macquin is located just three kilometres north of SaintÉmilion, in the small village of Saint-Georges, the smallest of all Bordeaux appellations 180 hectares. The south facing vines are planted on clay and limestone soils and range from 15 to 60 years old. The vines are sustainably farmed, without the use of herbicides, fertilisers, or other harmful had a wet spring, which proved to be helpful given the drought that was to follow. The flowering in early June was remarkably successful, with almost 12 weeks of hot summer weather. 2016 was a later harvest and in keeping, in terms of timing, with what are called 'classic' Bordeaux ripe and forward 2016 is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Maceration lasted for three weeks. Fermentation and malolactic fermentation took place in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks, with pumping over of the cap in order to extract colour and tannin. One-third of the wine was aged in 25% new French oak for one year, giving the wine a little structure and complexity without being overpowering. The remaining two-thirds rested in stainless steel until NOTESDeep ruby red in colour, this wine shows intense aromas of ripe red fruits and spicy notes of cinnamon and pepper. The palate is full-bodied with perfectly concentrated flavours of cassis, raspberry and tobacco and a balanced lifted acidity. Silky tannins and a long persisting finish are also characteristics of this wine.

L’âge moyen des vignes varie de 15 à 60 ans. Il est enherbé au milieu du rang pour diminuer la production et augmenter la qualité des sols en développant l'humus naturel. Élaboration du produit Après une longue macération, le vin est écoulé et mis en cuve, une partie inox l’autre béton, puis en barriques. S’ensuit un élevage de douze à dix huit mois avant d'être mis en bouteille. Notes de dégustation Au nez, on y décèle de jolies notes de cassis et de framboises avec des nuances finement épicées. La bouche révèle un beau vin souple et dense, corsé avec des tannins murs et présents. Le millésime confère une belle fraîcheur soutenue par une finale sur la réglisse et le clou de girofle.
